Devkyara Trek is a joyful adventure for the beginners. Situated in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 4100 meters, this beautiful meadow is still an unexplored or less-explored place to go for a trek with friends or family. Popular places like Obra Gad, Jakhol, Bhawa are on the way to this trek. Holy places like the temple of Lord Someshwar, popular peaks like Ranglana peak and small rivers like Obra and Rupin rivers are there. Still, the Devkyara meadow with full of lush green grass and flowers remain the center of attraction. This meadow is between Rupin and Supin, the twin valleys.
Highlights of the trek or road trip
Located in the district Uttarkashi of Uttarakhand state, Devkyara meadow is situated at a high altitude. This meadow belongs to the Sankri range of the Garhwal Himalayas. As this place along with the trek remains little explored, therefore it will excite you to be one of those who will go to the place before it is known to all. This trek will give you an everlasting memory of the Garhwal Himalayas along with nature and the surroundings. If you are a beginner, it will be a paradise for you. Starting from Dehradun towards the Devkyara meadow and returning back will be a blissful journey to you. You will start going upwards from the beginning. A major part of your journey will be done by car. Apart from that, you have to trek for nearly 36 km within 5 days. That is not hard at all. On average, you will trek for 4 to 5 hours. At Devkyara, you will be at the highest altitude for this journey. In this trek, you will explore a lot of things. You have to cross streams, temples, mountain villages and so on and so far.
Short Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrive in Sankri
You will reach Sankri from Dehradun by car.
Day 02: Sankri to Obra via Boincha
You will go to Boincha from Sankri by taxi. Then trek towards Obra grad. From today, you will go upwards.
Day 03: Obra to Bhawa Waterfall
A small journey to the Bhawa waterfall is to be done on this day. You will move to a higher altitude.
Day 04: Bhawa Waterfall to Devkyara
You will be at the highest point of this journey at Devkyara.
Day 05: Dev Kyara to Bhawa Waterfall Campsite
It is time to go backward, the way you came. You will start descending.
Day 06: Bhawa Waterfall to Boincha and Boincha to Sankri
You will be heading towards the finishing line.
Day 07: Depart from Sankri and then to Dehradun.

Day 01: Dehradun Railway Station to Sankri base camp by taxi
Total distance – 210 km
Total duration: 8 to 9 hours
Altitude: 1920 Meters (Sankri base camp)
Here you go! This is the first day of your journey. You have to start your journey from Dehradun Railway station. From here you have to go to Sankri. The base camp will be here. You have to take a taxi or a cab or bus in order to reach Sankri. The scenic beauty beside both sides of the road during the journey is very pleasant. You will go through local villages and forests on the way to Sankri. You will also see the beautiful Yamuna River on your way. After traveling for around 8 hours, you will reach Sankri. It is a small village full of scenic beauty around it. You can see some of the snow-capped peaks of Himalayan Ranges from the base camp.
Day 02: Sankri to Baincha (by taxi) Baincha to Obra gad camp(trek)
Total distance: 39 km
Total duration: 5 hours
Altitude: 2500 meters (Obra gad camp)
On day 2, you will start from the Sankri base camp. After having breakfast, you will go out for today’s journey. You need to pack your lunch and carry it with you. You will go to Baincha at first by taxi. Then you will trek forward to Obra gad camp. Here, the trail starts right from the Obra gad camp and if you follow this trail, you will go through beautiful Himalayan villages. You will be able to feel the lifestyle and culture of those people in the mountains. where you can have a glimpse of their life in the mountains. You will eat your packed lunch somewhere down the middle of your journey. On your way, you will see small temples. After traveling and trekking for about 5 to 6 hours, you will reach the cam site of Obra grad. Here, you will take some rest and get refreshed. You will spend the night at the campsite.
Day 03: Trek from Obra gad camp to Bhawa camp
Total Distance: 8 km
Total duration: 5 to 6 hours
Altitude: 3500 meters(Bhawa campsite)
You have to wake up early, have some breakfast and then get ready for today’s journey. Before starting the journey, you must pack lunch. The trek is as long and will be surrounded by dark and dense forests. Today you will go upwards. The natural beauty of the forest is equally beautiful. The forest is full of plants, herbs and full of a wide range of wildflowers in front of you. After trekking for 5 to 6 hours, you will reach the Bhawa camp. The view in front of your eyes will amaze you. From this point, you will see small villages and Devkiyara. You will spend the night here at the campsite.
Day 04: Bhawa camp to Devkiyara camp
Trek Distance: 5 km
Total duration: 3 to 4 hours
Altitude: 4100 meters(Devkiyara camp)
After having breakfast you will start trekking towards the journey right from the Bhawa campsite. You should not forget to carry your packed lunch. Today’s trek will be a picture-perfect journey to you. You will start walking slowly along with the slope full of green grass towards the campsite at Devkiyara. Today you will go towards the higher altitude. The scenic beauty of this vast green meadow can not be expressed in words. The meadow is full of green and is surrounded by some of the popular peaks. Daowdu (5500 m) and Rangnala Peaks (6100 m) are the common ones seen from here. The campsite will be here where you will spend the night.
Day 05: Devkiyara camp to Obra gad camp
Trek Distance: 13 km
Total duration: 5 to 6 hours
Altitude: 2500 meters(Obra gad)
This is the 5th day of your journey. From this day onwards you will return to Dehradun in the same way you have come. After having a small breakfast, you will start trekking with packed lunch and return backward to Obra gad campsite. From Devkiyara you will start trekking downwards until you reach Obra gad valley. The entire route will be through the beautiful meadows and dense forest. This Obra gad valley is popular for the Obra temple. The temple is situated beside the Obra River. Lord Someshwar is very popular here and people from different places come here each and every year.
Day 06: Obra gad to Sankri via Baincha road
Total distance: 39 km(6 km trek and 33 km drive)
Total duration: 4 to 5 hours
Altitude: 1920 meters(Sankri)
This is the 6th day of your journey. You will go from Obra gad to Sankri. After breakfast, you will start trekking towards Baincha road. The path will go through a vast meadow and then dense forest. Somewhere in the middle of your journey, you should have your lunch. While walking down the road, you will reach Baincha road via Dhara. On your way to Baincha road, you will come across the temple of Lord Someshwar which is beside the river called Supin river. The temple is pretty big. Take some rest there and start trekking. After reaching Baincha road, you will take a taxi and drive to Sankri.
Day 07: Sankri to Dehradun
Total distance: 210 km
Total duration: 8/9 hours
Today is the last day of the journey with your teammates. You will have some breakfast and then start the journey towards Dehradun by cab or taxi.
The weather around Devkyara is usually pleasant. You will have the most appropriate time between June and November. Where there will be a little chance to see snowfall. Snowfall usually occurs between December and May. The temperature during summer ranges from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius in the daytime. At night it stands between 0 to 5 degrees Celsius. During winter, the temperature goes beyond 0 degrees Celsius and ranges between -5 to -2 degrees Celsius.
You will be able to see some popular peaks of the Garhwal Himalaya on the way to your journey. Hata Peak( meter) situated very close to the Har ki Dun Valley is very popular. The Ranglana Peak(5554 meters) peak near the Obra valley is the other major peak here. Although this trek will ensure you the stunning view of several unknown peaks and snow-capped ranges on 0the way to Devkyara.
The Devkyara Trek is ranked as an easy trek by the trekkers. Therefore, it is ideal for novice or beginners. No such major ascent and descent and lack of difficulties made this trek easier to complete. You will neither have to summit nor have to cross a glacier traversing on the way. Witha total trekking distance of 36 km and a total duration of 5 trekking days, this trek is classified as a short trek. The highest altitude of this trek is around 4100 meters. Upward and downward pats are not too challenging.
ATM Point:
You will get enough ATMs at Dehradun. After that, you will get ATM at Purola and it is the last point in the middle of the journey, where you will find ATM. But, you are advised to take sufficient cash from the ATMs at Dehradun.
Mobile Connectivity:
You will not get any mobile networks during the entire journey. In Sankri, you will get a network and after that, only in Purola some small amount of network will be available. Service providers like Vodafone and BSNL are available there. But, the network connectivity might be poor.
