Manimahesh Lake, which is very much popular in Himachal Pradesh, situated at the base of Manimahesh Kailash Peak. The lake and the peak are very popular with the Hindu pilgrimage. According to the pilgrimage and the local people, this lake and the Peak is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
This Manimahesh Kailash peak is as high as 5,653 meters. This particular place has an attraction for the people and they gather in this place from different corners of our country on the day of Janmashtami. Along with visiting the lake and the peak, you will visit some popular temples, do snow trek and have a lot of fun.

You may go through different beautiful and exciting treks in Himachal Pradesh. Among them, Manimahesh trek is one of the beautiful treks in different ways. Manimahesh lake and Manimahesh Kailash peak is a holy place for the Hindu pilgrimage. Situated at the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas and next to Manas Sarobar, increases the religious significance of this place. The initial part will be covered by taxi r cab. For the rest, you have to walk only. Walking through the path in the mountains full of stone, walking upwards through a tiny and difficult path, and walking beside the mountain stream will be a memory that you can cherish for the rest of your life. From visiting holy places like temples to walking on the snow for hours, you will be thrilled to live the life in the Himalayas.
Day: 1 - Delhi to Pathankot
Today you will reach Pathankot by train.
Day: 2 - Pathankot to Dalhousie
Today’s journey will be by taxi only.
Day: 3 - Dalhousie to Bharmour via Kalatop and Khajjiar
Another day to travel by taxi.
Day: 4 - Bharmour to Bharmani Mata Temple and return to Bharmour
The actual trekking will start today. You will go upwards from here.
Day: 5 - Bharmour to Kugti via Hadsar
Part of the day you will travel by taxi and then walk.
Day: 6 - Kugti to Dalotu via Kartik Temple
Today, you will go higher and visit the temple.
Day: 7 - Dalotu tp Alyais Base Camp
Today, you will reach the Alyais base camp through the ascending path.
Day: 8 - Alyais Base Camp to Manimahesh via Chobu Pass and Kamal Kund
Today you will reach the highest point at the base of Manimahesh Kailash. You also do snow trek today.
Day: 9 - Manimahesh to Bharmour via Gaurikund and Dhancho
Today, we will start going downwards and visit Gaurikund on the way.
Day: 10 - Bharmour to Pathankot via Chamba
This is the final day of this journey.
Day 01:
Delhi to Pathankot (By Train)
Total distance: 481 km
The time required: 8 to 10 hours
This is the very first day of this journey. On this day, you will travel from Delhi to Pathankot by train. In the evening, you have to catch the train in order to reach Pathankot by tomorrow morning.
Day 02:
Pathankot to Dalhousie
Total distance: 80 km
The time required: 3 hours
Here s your 2nd day of this journey. It will start at Pathankot station. When you arrive at the Pathankot train station, you need to take a cab or shared taxi, in order to reach Dalhousie. It will take almost 3 hours to reach there. After reaching Dalhousie, you need to go to the hotel room which must be booked previously. Here you can take some rest and relax. In the evening you can visit the beautiful sightseeing of the surroundings and enjoy the beauty of the Dalhousie hill station.
Day 03:
Dalhousie to Kalatop to Khajjiar to Bharmour
Total distance: 110 km
The time required: 4 hours
On day three, you will start the journey from Dalhousie. After taking some breakfast there, you will set for the next destinations for today. You will travel by cab or a taxi for the entire day. At first, you will visit the Kalatop wildlife sanctuary. It is one of the popular places of Himachal Prades to visit. Where you find lush green valleys and snow-capped mountains in your surroundings. Then, you will move forward in the direction of Khajjiar. Khajjiar is a small hill station in the district of Chamba. It is surrounded by green meadows and forests. The beauty of it surrounding is really joyful to watch. Here you can take some lunch and rest as well for half an hour. And then, you will start moving towards Bharmour through Chamba. At Bharmour, you have to go to your hotel room. You will get refreshed and take some rest here. In the evening, you may go to visit the Chaurasi Temple and the grand Aarti. You will stay at night in the hotel.
Day 04:
Bharmour to Bharmani Mata Temple to Bharmour
Total distance: 6 km
The time required: 4 hours
This day will be the first day of trekking. Till now from the beginning, you were moving by car. Now you have to start walking. In the morning, you have to take some breakfast. Then you have to start the journey as early as possible. Toda’s journey is all about to the Bharmani Temple. The temple is situated on top of a hill(crest). The temple is nearly 3 kilometers trekking distance from Bharmour. You have to carry some lunch with you. You have to eat those and take rest for a while at the temple. In the evening, you will return back to the hotel room at Bharmour. You will stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 05:
Bharmour to Hadsar to Kugti
Total distance: 26 km (20 km by taxi & 6 km trek)
The time required: 5 hours
You have to wake up early as today’s journey is a bit long. You have to travel the first part by car and then finish the rest by trekking. You will start trekking towards Hadsar and Dhanaul one after another by taxi or cab. From Dhanual, you will start trekking towards the famous Manimahesh. You will walk alongside the beautiful Bhujla stream for a few hours. You will carry lunch jut like the previous day. You have to eat it here beside the stream. While walking down alongside the stream you will reach the Village Kugti. Kugti is beautiful due to the scenic beauty of its surroundings and for the Kugti wildlife sanctuary. You will stay overnight here in this village.
Day 06:
Kugti to Kartik Temple to Dalotu
Total distance: 8 km
The time required: 6-7 hours
This is the 6th day of this journey. It might be the longest as well as the busiest day of the entire journey. You have to wake up very early. Then, you have to take breakfast as fast as possible. Once you have finished breakfast, you will set out for today’s journey. Today you will start the trek towards the Kartik temple. This temple was built in the memory of Lord Kartik, the son of Lord Shiva. The marvelous surroundings of the temple are a joy to watch. Here at the Kartik temple, you can eat the packed your lunch. After having lunch, you will go towards the next campsite at Dalotu. The surrounding of this campsite is very pleasant. You will stay at night here at the campsite.
Day 07:
Dalotu to Base Camp(Alyas)
Total distance: 10 km
The time required: 8 to 9 hours
Today you will start from Dalotu. It is the 7th day of your journey. In the morning, you will have some breakfast and then start trekking. Fro Dalotu mountain region, you will walk through the dense forests. After crossing the forest, you will have to cross a small stream. There will be a wooden bridge on this tiny stream. After that, you will walk upwards for half an hour until you reach the bank of the stream. Thereafter, you will go following an alpine route for half an hour in an upward direction. The path is tiny, full of stones and you must be very careful while trekking in this part. You have to move upwards and trek for around 3 hours. Then you will reach the base camp of Alyas. Here you will enjoy the rest of the day with others. The scenic beauty of the surroundings is a pleasure to watch. You have to stay at night in the camp.
Day 08:
Alyas Base Camp to Chobu Pass to Kamal Kund to Manimahesh
Total distance: 12 km
The time required: 9 hours
This is the 8th day of this journey. As you will go forward, you will be approaching the end. Today you will start the journey from the Alyas base camp towards Manimahesh Kailash peak. Today’s journey will be as long as 12 km and it might take up to 9 hours in order to complete. The weather in this region is very much uncertain and it changes rapidly. Therefore, trekking in this part will depend upon the weather. As long as the sky is clear, there will be no problem to go out for the trek. As the part for today will be long, therefore you need to get ready as early as possible. You have to cross a part over the moraine. Then you will go to another exciting part where the trek is on the snow. After that, you will cross the Chobu Pass while walking on the snow. Thereafter walking for about half an hour, you will see the beautiful Kamal Kund lake which is known as dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kamal Kund is a beautiful quaint lake which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. And then you will move towards the Manimahesh lake and then Manimahesh Kailash peak. The campsite will be here where you will spend the night around the majestic beauty of the.
Day 09:
Manimahesh to Gaurikund to Dhancho to Bharmour
Total distance: 28 km(14 Kms Trek & 14 Kms travel by Taxi)
The time required: 10 hours
This is the last day on which you will walk on ou feet. It’s the 9th day of this exciting journey. In the morning, after having some breakfast, you will start trekking right from the campsite of Manimahesh. From here you will go downwards to the Gaurikund lake. After visiting the Gaurikund, you will move further downwards. The trek will go towards Dhancho. As the trek goes forward, you will go downwards as well. Here, you can watch the beautiful waterfall. You have to take some rest here and also have some lunch. After that, you will catch a taxi in order to reach the Barbour. You will spend the night at a hotel.
Day 10:
Bharmour - Chamba – Pathankot
Total distance: 190 km
The time required: 5 hours
The final day of this magnificent journey as you will approach towards Pathankot by a taxi or cab. Here at Bharmour, you will set off after having a light breakfast. You will reach Chamba in the middle of the day. Here you will eat your lunch and then take some rest. You will visit popular places like the Bhuri Singh Museum and Laxmi Narayan Temple here. Then, you will go towards Pathankot in order to reach the station.
The weather at Manimahesh Kailesh is different at different phases of the year. The temperature in the daytime between July to September remains between 12 to 18 degrees Celcius. But at night, it becomes as low as -2 to 5 degrees Celcius. In October, the temperature at daytime increases slightly but the night becomes colder(-5 to 2 degrees Celcius). You can see snowfall at the high passes till the month of July. After that, the chances of snowfall remain less.
Here on this trek, you will reach the base camp of the peak Manimahesh Kailash on the 8th day of your journey. The peak is one of the most popular peaks in this region. This is as high as 18547 feet. This peak is yet to summit.
There are not many difficulties in this trekking. This trek is categorized as moderate to finish. The journey on the 8th day towards Mnimahesh Kailash is a bit difficult as the weather is difficult to predict. Except that everything will go almost smooth.
There is not much of the journey on the snow. Hence, snow trek is almost nil. Still, on the 8th day of the journey from Chobu Pass to Manimahesh via Kamal Kund will be on the snow. Therefore, you will do snow trek for a few km here.
There will be ATMs at Pathankot. After that, you will find ATM only once in Bharmour. You have to take sufficient cash as there will be no more ATMs in the middle of the journey except these two. You will get mobile connectivity as well as the internet at Bharmour, Chamba region. Most of the major service providers like BSNL, Vodafone and Airel are available here. You can also use local payphones which are also inexpensive
