About Hampi - Heritage Trek

History is carved in stone, and these archaeological ruins which were once the prosperous and grand capital of the Vijayanagara Empire will take their visitor back to the 14th century.

The heritage city of Hampi which is referred to as ‘The group of monuments at Hampi’ is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the east-central Karnataka, along with the shores of the Tungabhadra river.

It was one of the world’s second-largest medieval-era city, the first being Beijing, and one of India’s richest city during 1500 C.E., as traders from Persia and Portugal flocked to the happening capital of Vijayanagara.

After being conquered by Mughal Sultanates in 1565, the city was plunged to ruins, giving rise to the modern day Hampi.

It is considered as a “Fantasy world of rocks and ruins” by the Lonely Planet.

Partake in this beautiful trek, where the walls do hold stories of the past. And if the archaeology and architecture isn’t enough to raise goosebumps, we also take you across the river to the stunning Anjaneya hills, which is known for being an amazing viewpoint for sunsets and sunrise. Take note earnest photographers! This just might be your moment!

Package Details

The ancient town of Hampi makes a great place for trekkers to explore the natural and man-made beauty of the land. The ruins form a rocky terrain and have several large and small hills that are ideal for trekking.

Hampi is also known for its boulder- strewn hills, which make for an amazing backdrop for the trek.

Location and how to reach

  • The trip starts from Bangalore. Hampi is located in the Bellary district of Karnataka that is about 364 km away from Bangalore.

Day 0 – The beginning

  • We will leave Bangalore at 7 pm Sharp, to travel the 364 km to reach Hampi.

Day 1 – The trek

  • Once everyone has freshened up then we will provide hot breakfast & begin our trek with bouldering, something Hampi is known for. This requires you to use your body weight to climb the rocks. If you are afraid of doing so, don’t be. We have experienced professionals who will help you navigate and climb these rocks with ease.
  • This activity usually takes around 2 hours and might be a tad bit tiring, but we have something that might help you with the next part of your journey.
  • If you are too tired to walk to the next location, you will be provided with mopeds at the site which will help you to enjoy and restore your energy before we head on to Sanapur Lake. Sanapur lake is a reservoir of the river Tungabhadra and is known for cliff jumping. Plus there is no better way to relax than resting your legs in the cold soothing water while enjoying the beautiful scenery and talking with your group!
  • After a brief period of rest, we start on our trek to the Anjaneya hills. The Anjaneya hill, also known as the Hanuman hill, provides a beautiful view of the entire city, and is an excellent viewpoint for watching the setting sun!
  • We will then head back to the campsite for dinner and enjoy a late night walk to the rocks. The view from these rocks are breathtaking, the stars and the soft glow from the campfire create a perfect harmony to make you fall in love with this place!

Day 2 – The heritage!

  • We will wake up early, so as not to miss the amazing sunrise the Hemkuta hills have to offer.  The beautiful colours of the sky, blend together to provide you with an ever-lasting memory of peace and tranquillity, and is the perfect addition, to last night’s breathtaking view!
  • The Hemkuta hills have a lot of temples that are dedicated to Lord Shiva.
  • Today’s journey will take you through the heritage that Hampi has to offer to you. We will begin our journey with the Virupaksha temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is also known as Virupaksha, the consort of Goddess Pampa. This beautiful temple lies among the ruins, and still used as a place of worship.
  • We will then walk through the Mathanga hills to visit the Vitthala temple, which also houses the legendary Stone Chariot which is the symbol of Karnataka tourism.
  • It might be a lot to take in the rich culture of this beautiful city, so we have a refreshing ride across the river in a coracle. A coracle is a boat made of leather, plastic and bitumen. The swaying motion across the river, while you are surrounded by the majestic city of Hampi is a surreal experience.
  • We will return to our campsite to make our way to Bangalore. The stories that these walls have to say may be lost in time, but we sure do hope that the memories you made during this trek, will not be lost in time.
