Kodachadri Trek is one such trek offering of adventure and fun. Situated in the Western Ghats in the district of Shimoga in Karnataka, Kodachadri is the tenth highest peak in this state. It is home to a number of lush green trails that pass through dense forests with beautiful waterfalls and landscapes. It is located within the limits of the Mookamabika Wildlife Sanctuary. The Moola Mookambika Temple which is believed to be the place of origin of Goddess Mookambika is also situated in the backdrop of this peak.

By Air: Mangalore International Airport is the nearest airport, which is about 153 km away. You can easily book a cab from the airport to the Kollur.
By Train: Kundapur railway station is connected to Mangalore, Bengaluru and major towns and cities of the country. The railway station is around 76 km away. You can easily book a cab from the railway station.
By Road: The town is well connected with roads so you can easily get buses for Kodachadri.

The best time to go for the Kodachadri trek is during the months of winters from October to February. It is one of the best winter treks of the South India and it is tough to go for this trek during the Monsoons.
The major things that every trekker must carry with themselves when they are on Kodachadri trekking are good trekking shoes, a rucksack, cotton clothes, a pair of gloves, warmer, a warm jacket, warm caps that would cover the head and ears perfectly, raincoat, water bottle, extra socks, torch, towel, walking stick, medicines, and some toiletries like the cold cream, sunscreen, moisturiser, toilet soap, etc.
The difficulty level of the Kodachadri trek is moderate. The trek is not very simple or very easy but the beginners can surely go for this trek during the winters. Monsoons and the rains make the trail of the trek very difficult though.
Vegetarian meals are provided on this trek. The meal includes breakfast on both the days and lunch and dinner.

Since the trek is not a very difficult one, the trekkers are not required to do any strenuous workouts prior to going on this trek. Even for the beginners, the trek is mildly tough and just going for continuous walks a week before and doing some squats would help you in building your lower body strength.

It will be an overnight bus journey from Bangalore to Kolur. From Kolur, the trekkers would go to the home stays that are at Sampekatte. It is from here when the trek starts.
