Important Mountain passes like The Khardungla Pass, which is the highest motorable pass in the world, the Tanglang La (The second Highest Pass on the planet) and the Rohtang Pass also fall on this road to Ladakh.

Itinerary:

Day01: - Reach in Manali

  • You arrive at Manali by Volvo Bus in the morning. Pick up shall be arranged from the Volvo bus stand from where we will head over to the premises of Hamptan Home which is where we will stay for the day. Here you will be served with some welcome snacks.
  • There will not be much activity for today and will primarily act as a day dedicated for complete rest for the body to regain all the required energy for the long journey across the lands of Ladakh that officially commences from the day after.
  • You can either rest in your rooms or head over to do some sightseeing or shopping outside. The Mall road market at Manali is a must visit for shopping lovers.
  • The bikes that we would be riding in the next set of days would be mostly ready by the evening with the fuel tanks totally filled up.
  • We will try wrapping up things early today, since we have a lot of bike riding to do the next day. Fresh cooked hot meals will be served for dinner by 7pm.
  • We will make way towards our beds by 8pm in the night thereafter for some quality sound sleep.

Day 02:- from Manali to Sarchu

  • We will wake up a bit early today as we would have to cover a large distance and start our day with some lovely breakfast.
  • From Manali, we will kickstart our first leg of the journey across the Manali-Leh-Highway.
  • We will first ride across the snow covered Rohtang Pass on the road to Ladakh which is at a height of 13,050 feet above sea level and eventually passing through green Keylong, Jispa and Dracha and then finally crossing the Baralacha Pass (16020 ft) to arrive at Sarchu in the late afternoon.
  • We stop at Gulaba and Rohtang for some pictures with the snow. This highway passes through some high altitude passes and rugged Mountain terrain and thereby does pose some challenges at times but provides equal amounts adrenaline rush and thrills.
  • We will stay at Sarchu for the night in Swiss tents. Since most people would exhausted after the whole day’s journey we will finish our dinners by 7pm and immediately hit the bed by 8pm thereafter.

Day03:- form Sarchu to Tso Moriri lake

  • Get prepared for some real fun today as we will be officially kickstarting our visits to the amazing lakes in the region today. Some of the most amazing landscapes can be witnessed today.
  • We will start early in the morning headed for the Tso Moriri lake and would go via Tso Kar, Pang, Nakeela, Lachulung La and More Plains.
  • On today's road journey we will also have the chance to cross Gata Loops section, which has 21 hairpin bends.
  • On today’s journey we will ride across some of the highest road stretches and gives a rider the chance to ride across all types of difficult and unpredictable road terrains and that is why it is often called by many as the “Highway to Hell”.
  • We will witness the beautiful lakes of Tso Kar and Tso Moriri today as well. The Tso Kar is a salt water lake which has a considerable depth and size.
  • The Tso Kar, Startsapuk Tso and the adjoining areas form a huge area which houses a lot of flora and fauna.
  • Tso Kar was a major source of salt a couple of years ago, which was exported by Changpa nomads to Tibet .We will reach Tso Moriri by the evening and will stay for the night in swiss tents set up by the banks of the Tso Moriri Lake.

Day04:- Explore the Tso Moriri Lake

  • The full day today would be dedicated to exploring the Tso Moriri Lake and the areas in and around the place.
  • Make sure you keep your camera ready for capturing maximum number of photographs of the beautiful landscapes and surroundings.
  • We will wake up early to catch the sunrise happening. It is an absolute delight to witness the sunrise at this place.
  • Next, we will head near the lake. The Tso Moriri which is fed by two streams and springs is a beautiful lake with blue waters that is an abode for a lot of flora and fauna.
  • Just nearby to this lake is the picturesque and quaint village of Korzok, which houses a monastery which is very popular among tourists.
  • We will stay again at the Swiss tents for the night here and gear up for the next day’s round of journey

Day05:- from Tso Moriri lake to Leh

  • The next day we will start moving towards Leh. On the way, we will cover a couple of places like the Changthang Hot Springs, Shey Palace and Thiksey Monastery.
  • We will reach Leh by the evening and will be staying at a hotel for the night.

Day06:- from Leh to Nubra Valley

  • After having an early breakfast at Leh, we will hit the road and start our road journey with fresh spirits and energy headed for Nubra valley and drive across the Khardungla Pass which proudly displays the signboard of being one of the Highest Motorable roads in the world.
  • Here we take a break from our road journey for a quick photo session as this Leh Ladakh road offers some breath-taking sights.
  • We will cross Khalsar and Diskit and finally enter the fascinating magical sand dunes of Nubra valley where we stay overnight at a camp. Such diverse and beautiful sights can only be seen along this Leh Ladakh road.
  • Dikshit is famous for a beautiful Buddhist monastery while Hunder is a small village in the Nubra Valley. Nubra Valley is famous for its sand dunes, the cold desert around it, spectacular views and Bactrian camels which quite uniquely have two humps.

Day07:- From Nubra valley to Pangong lake

  • Next day after some good breakfast we will head over to another major attraction of our trip- The Pangong lake. We will take an alternative route here this time, heading towards Pangong Lake from Khalsar via Agam-Shyok.
  • This will give us an additional opportunity to drive through some exciting road routes, do water crossing and save a day as well where we will get the chance to ride along the Shyok river.
  • After taking a left turn from Dubruk and crossing Tangtse the first view of world famous Pangong lake with its azure waters becomes visible.
  • We stay overnight at a tent in a camp by the Pangong lake.

Day08:- From Pangong Lake to Leh via Changla Pass

  • After spending an unforgettable night on the bank of the waters of Pangong Lake, post-breakfast, we start our road journey riding from Pangong to Leh enroute which we will cross the Changla Pass ( 3rd highest motorable pass).
  • On reaching Leh, we can do some sightseeing in and around the place.
  • We will stay overnight at a hotel in Leh.

Day09:- From Leh to Sarchu

  • We will check out from Leh and start our journey back to Manali today. We will hit the road by 8 am post some breakfast.
  • The road again provides some charming and beautiful sights worth remembering forever.
  • We will ride till Sarchu today which is a lot of distance to cover and would stay at a tent for the night.

Day10:- From Sarchu to Manali

  • It is the last leg of our journey today. From Sarchu we will ride till Manali using the same route that we had used while going to Ladakh.
  • Going through the same road would surely bring a lot of memories of the first leg of our Lakes trip.
  • We will reach Manali by the evening and would check into a hotel for the night. Dinner would be served by 9pm.

Day11:- Return from Manali to home

  • It is time to bid goodbye to the trip and everyone whom we met who had been part of it. After a rather late breakfast, we will start our journey back towards home.
  • Drop to the bus stand at Manali would be arranged and we will conclude this road trip on one of the best road routes in the country taking back some superb memories and sights worth cherishing forever.
