Package Details

7 days and 6 nights will be covered in the entire trek. There are a lot of exciting packages available for this trek. Almost everything is included in the package itself like food, camps, tents etc. And a discount will also be provided if you are travelling with a big team.

The trek should be booked prior. For cancelling the reservation you should make sure that you cancel it before 15 days. If you cancel within 15 days to the date of going then there will be no refund. 100% refund will be made if cancelled within 30 days of the journey and 50 % refund will be made if cancelled within 15 days of the journey.

Location and how to reach :-

For going to this trek you will have to first reach to Rishikesh from where the trek will start. There are various options to reach Rishikesh they are listed below

  • By air – the Dehradun airport called as Jolly grant airport is the nearest airport to Rishikesh which is 35 km away.
  • By Bus- if you are travelling from Delhi or NCR then there is a bus depot in Rishikesh where buses from Dehradun, Delhi all come.
  • By train- the nearest railway station is Haridwar which is 25 km away from Rishikesh. Trains from all over India come to Haridwar and then from Haridwar you can take a bus to reach Rishikesh.
  • By Road- Driving up to Rishikesh is fun as it has got various national highways which is pretty safe to travel.

Itinerary :-

Day 01:- Rishikesh to Gangotri

The journey begins in Rishikesh. In this place our organization will take in charge of the trekkers and let them reach their destinations. Trekkers need to drive from Rishikesh to Gangotri by either Volvo buses or cars etc. the total distance is approximately 270 kilometers which takes 10 hours to reach the destination.

Gangotri is a very famous place and is known as the source of river ganga. It is believed that king Bagirath prayed to lord Shiva for salvation of the sould of his 60,000 sons. And in return Shiva answered his prayers by asking Goddess Ganga to release her water which purified Bagirath’s sons.

You rest your day here in Gangotri, you also do sight seeing and go to the near market and buy clothes and things.

Day 02:- Gangotri to Bhojbasa

The actual trekking starts from this day from Gangotri. The day starts early as we have to trek to approximately 14 kilometers. This will take 8 hours to do that.

We will be travelling to Bhojbasa by Chirbasa. Start from the Gangotri market, you can take multiple paths from here and then go to the forest nearby. From the forest the trail continues to the Sudarshana Parbat. Here you will get your permit checks. All the passes will be taken care by the organization who is arranging the trek.

On our way to Bhojbasa we will encounter various snowy mountains and peaks , waterfalls, the Bhagirathi river etc. the scenery is absolutely mind blowing. Then you will again go through a dense forest before reaching Chirbasa . Rest the night here and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

Day 3:- Bhojbasa to Tapovan

This is one of the most difficult days where we will be travelling to Tapovan which is 9 km away and takes approximately 7 hours to trek. This day we will climb the glacial mountains. At times these are slippery so proper trekking shoes should be worn.

You will also be able to take the view of Akash Ganga. You will be travelling from the land slide prone areas. Make sure that you climb the mountain before lunch time as there are chances of land sliding in the evening. You also need to cross Akash Ganga stream.

Tapovan is a steep climb. After reaching Tapovan , search for a suitable place and draw you camps. To enjoy the night you can also play bon fire.

Day 4:- Explore Nandavan

This day is light as compared to the other days. Tapovan is stretched 2 km. you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the nature in Nandavan which is hardly few kilometers apart. Click a lot of pictures. Enjoy the meadows. Rest the whole day in Tapovan and hence day 4 concludes.

Day 5:- Tapovan to Chirbasa

The descend of our trek has started. After reaching and resting in Tapovan for a day our journey to go back will be started. It is approximately 14 kilometers and will take 4-5 hours to descend back to Chirbasa.

Day 6:- Chirbasa to Gangotri

The descend is comparatively easier than the climb. On our way back we can enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna that the nature has got for us. The mountains covered with snow, the river streams, the valleys is something you don’t get to see everyday. You should therefore enjoy the single bit of the moment there.

The drive is around 1 hour from Chirbasa and will be approximately 9 km distance.

Day 7:- Rishikesh

The next day we will be dropping you to the point where we first picked you up. The whole journey ends here. It was a wonderful and an adventurous journey, which is worth remembering.

Difficulty level:-

This trek is considered as a moderate to difficult trek. This is not suitable for beginners. You should be well prepared for this trek.

Proper exercise and training is required to climb such difficult paths. Should wear proper gears to avoid serious damage and always carry the necessary things like torch, first aid kit, warm cloths, bottle, trekking shoes etc.

Weather:-

The weather in Tapovan is very cold as compared to Gaumukh as it is in high altitude. The most pleasant season for this trek is in summer that is may to July. The weather remains cold though but not that cold. In winters the temperature is in negative and the whole trail is covered with snow making impossible to trek.

In monsoon the path becomes really slippery, so the ideal time to visit is in summer.

Accomodation:-

Camps will be provided to trekkers . They need not to carry their sleeping bags, as all is available in the package.

Meal:-

Meal is included in the package but it is advised to carry your own dry fruits and chocolates to keep yourself warm . hot meals are included like breakfast, lunch, dinner.

ATM points and connectivity :-

There are ample number of ATMs in Rishikesh. So it is suggested to take sufficient money in Rishikesh only. As you go higher the altitude there are less to no ATM . so always carry good amount of money with you.

Permission/passes/permits :-

All the forest permits and passes are taken care by the organization. You just need to provide with the documents that are needed for the permit. The Uttarakhand tourism is very supportive in providing passes to all.

Things to Carry :-

  • A sturdy backpack which contains all sorts of necessary things. The backpack should be water proof.
  • A first aid kit which should have all basic medicines for nausea, vomiting etc. Dettol, sanitizer, bandage etc.
  • Water bottle, flasks to store hot water.
  • Energy bars and protein bars as in higher altitude walking is really exhausting.
  • Extra pair of warm clothes, gloves etc.
  • All toiletries product in the bag.
  • A walking stick.



Cancellation Policy

  • If cancellations are made 30 days before the start date of the trip, 50% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • If cancellations are made within 0-30 days before the start date of the trip, 100% of total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain activities may be cancelled and in such cases the our service partner will try his best to provide an alternate feasible activity.

The best time to this trek is from May to July. Though the temperatures here are low almost throughout the year, they are moderate during these months. During winters the temperatures drop further and the whole area is covered with snow. Trekking is not possible therefore during the winter months.

Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a trek is generally a trek for experienced trekkers as it requires you to walk some 45 kilometres on foot. The weather conditions and high altitude can be challenging for a few trekkers. This trek requires good amount of training and physical fitness. However, if you are a person who is a beginner and loves challenges can surely sign up for this.

This is a trek that will be easy but will test your endurance and patience. It involves walking for a long stretch of distance and therefore would need a lot of stamina. If you are a person who is not physically fit and mostly leads a sedentary life, then it is advisable to indulge in some form of physical activity like exercises or sports to make yourself fit for the trek. Legs and calf muscles need to be worked upon especially. People who are not very comfortable with treks at such high altitudes can do some form of yoga as it helps in building mental and physical confidence. Staying mentally confident will also surely help

You should have basic physical fitness to do this trek Make sure you are exercising well everyday to become physically fit for this trek..Carrying basic first aid kit with yourself during the trip is also compulsory. Consult your doctor before coming to this trek and ensure that you are medically fit to go for this trek as the trek does have some difficult terrains and climatic conditions. It is also a must to buy raincoats and umbrellas prior to the trip as the trek happens in the monsoons season. Also make sure you have sufficient warm garments for the trip. Carry basic medicines and dry food along with you as well

A rucksack is which is sturdy and can accommodate a sufficient amount of things is required. It should also be waterproof as this will protect your belongings from getting wet from rains. Make sure the rucksack is not too heavy.

Porters and mules will be present to carry the camping equipment and this is included in the package. To carry you personal luggage, you will have to hire porters at your own cost

A good pair of trekking shoes is essential for this trek. There might be portions where you might have to walk through small streams or rocky portions, so a sturdy pair of shoes is a must. These shoes should have good grip that will help you trek through slippery terrains.

A guide is necessary for this trek as a guide is well versed with the route. It will more convenient to hire a guide as you do not have to worry about directions or anything like that. A guide also might know some shortcuts to the destination and can help you save time. A guide is also aware about the local history, flora and fauna and can help you learn more about the place.
