  • The river rafting season in Rishikesh starts from the early summer continues till the end of spring. River-rafting in Rishikesh remains closed from 1st July to 15th September during the monsoons.
  • The best time to enjoy Rishikesh for river rafting is from mid-September to the first week of December. Weather conditions and water temperatures are good during this time.

Rapids in Rishikesh:

Gifted with the beautiful Ganges and its tributaries, Rishikesh promises to be the ultimate place for river rafting. There are however various grades of rapids with different difficulty levels for river rafting. 

The rapids are graded from grade-I to grade-V. Here is the various classification of rapids-

  • Grade- I: There are the rapids which the easiest difficulty. There are not so challenging given the fact that they are in the plains. The flow of the water is also considerably slow. This is totally ideal for beginners and it requires limited expertise or skills. People who do not know swimming can also take part in this.
  • Grade- IIThe Grade 2 rapids are the next level rapids with a little more difficulty than the Grade 1 rapids. These pass through uneven regions or rocky portions of the river. They therefore are a bit challenging. One needs prior rafting experience to navigate these rapids. Grade 2 rapids are one of the most popular rapids among adventure enthusiasts.
  • Grade- III: These rapids are one of the most tiring and strenuous rapids in this region. The water flows at high speed here creating foams when it hits the rocks, and hence it is also called white river rafting. These rapids are found at places where the river flows downwards with great speed. A rafting guide is required while passing through these rapids as it requires a certain level of expertise. They are challenging but are also full of fun.

Non-swimmers or minors can also enjoy river rafting but should abide by all the rules and regulations. They should listen to the instructions of all the guides and instructors.
