The total distance covered in Chandrakhani pass trek is 25 km, which can be covered in 4 days. During this period, the trekkers can enjoy the different colors of nature. The trail passes through pristine nature of greeny vegetation, gurgling streams and snowclad mountains. To begin with Chandrakhani pass trek you have to reach Naggar. Naggar can be reached from Manali or Kullu. But, due to the transportation issue in Kullu tourist who wants to visit the Naggar come from Manali. Naggar can be reached by the following modes of transport :
By Air: The nearest airport is Kullu-Manali airport which is located in Bhuntar. It is at a distance of about 31.6 KM from Naggar. Taxi service is available from the airport to reach Naggar.
By Road: Manali and Naggar are merely 21 km away from each other. You can hire a taxi service to cover the distance from Manali to Naggar.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Naggar to situated at Joginder Nagar. Naggar is at a distance of 145 km from the Joginder Nagar Railway Station.
December to April
Day 01 : Reporting Naggar.(1700m)
Once you reach Naggar, you will be given brief details of the Chandrakhani pass trek. The guides will inform the schedule of the trek.
The various precautionary steps are taken while trekking to Chandrakhani pass.They will also be informed about the Do's and Don'ts, things to carry for the trek, etc.
In evening the trekkers can go for walk to explore Naggar. Naggar is located on left bank of river Beas. Naggar is an ancient town in Kullu and was once capital of Kullu Kingdom.
Naggar has various tourist spots like Vasuki temple, Naggar Castle, Gauri Shankar temple and many more.
To stay in the night, Lodges are available. This day stretch is usually for acclimatization for the next day of their Himalaya trekking tour.
Day 02: Naggar to Naya Tapru (2900m/9000ft; 8 – 9 hrs) Approx 7 to 8 km.
After a healthy breakfast, we start our uphill trek to Naya Tapru. Our actual Himalaya trekking tour in a true sense starts from this spot. Naya Tapru is located at an altitude of 9000 ft at a distance of 8 km. The ascend trek is on a gradual slope and takes around 8-9 hrs.
The trek to Naya Tapru is via traditional Ramsu village. The trail passes through the forests of pine, oak, freshwater streams and bridges. You will be mesmerized by the fog-filled region. Such a view is leisure to eyes. After 9 hrs of trekking, we will reach to our base camp Naya Tapru.
Naya Tapru lies just below the Chandrakhani pass providing an ideal place for campsites. We will have early dinner and then a bonfire at night. This camping trip could not be any better while we stay overnight, in the lap of Himalaya. Camping in India has been trending these days and you will notice how youth and elders all enjoy sitting around the fire, singing and enjoying the night.
Day 03: Naya Tapru (2900m/9000ft) –Chanderkhani Pass – Naya Tapru (2900 m/ 9000ft; 9-10 hrs) Approx 13-14 kms.
We start early morning. Today is the Longest Day of the Chandrakhani pass trek. We will ascend towards the Chandrakhani pass. It is having an elevation of 12030 ft with steady slopes. Today the trail passes through a dense forest of pine and meadows.
After few hours of trek, we will reach Chandrakhani pass. It is the way (pass) between the Ramsu village and Malana village. The trek gives you the magnificent views of majestic peaks of Deo Tibb, Dhaulandhar ranges, Parvati Valley and Malana Valley. You will be spellbound by the panoramic views of Himalayas.
After spending few hours and cherishing the moment we will start our downhill trek to base camp Naya Tapru. And stay overnight at Naya Tapru.
Day 04: Naya Tapru – Naggar (1700m; 4 to 5 hrs) Approx 8 – 9 kms.
After breakfast, we will pack our rucksack for our final trek. The trekking distance of Naya Tapru from Naggar is 8-9 km. Today is easy to descend the trek of Chandrakhani pass and takes around 4-5 hrs to cover the distance. Throughout the journey, you will witness the picturesque beauty of the Himalayas.
On reaching Naggar, we will conclude our Chandrakhani pass trek with never-ending beautiful memories. Our adventurous and thrilling Weekend trip ends here. We will drive back to Manali ending the adventurous journey with unending memories of one of the best camping places in India.
