If you are looking for an adventurous summit trek in winters then Kedarkantha trek is one of them. The max altitude you will be reaching in this trek is around 12,500ft (3810m). Kedarkantha is located within Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. The trek starts from a small village called Sankri, from the summit you will have a grand views of 13 majestic Himalayan peaks. The thing that make Kedarkantha trek special from all other treks are its beautiful campsites and 360º view of mountains from the summit.If you are planning your first trek in Himalayas than it’s just a perfect trek to start with. The best time to visit Kedarkantha is from November to April as the trek is covered in snow but it is going to amaze you round the year.
The drive is really beautiful after Purola, you can enjoy the tons river flowing beside you. Kedarkantha Base campsite and Juda ka Talab campsite are the two famous campsites of the place having open meadows with snow peaks and canopy of pine trees. These campsites are undoubtedly the best picturesque trekking destinations. From the summit you have grand views of Swargarohini, Black Peak, Bandarpoonch among the Gangotri and Yamunotri ranges.
Day 01: Reach Sankri it takes about 8-9hours from Dehradun. The drive is beautiful.
Day 02: The trek starts from Sankri you will be trekking to Juda Ka Talab campsite from Sankri.
Day 03: You will be reaching Kedarkantha base camp today from Juda ka Talab campsite.
Day 04: Finally the summit day comes! You will leave early from Kedarkantha base camp to summit than back to Juda ka Talab.
Day 05: Reach Sankri from Juda ka Talab.
Day 06: Drive back to Dehradun 8-9 hours.
Day 1 – Dehradun – Sankri (200 km | 7 hours | Altitude 6,400 feet)
Day 2 – Sankri - Juda ka Talab (4 km | 5 hours | Altitude 9100 feet)
Day 3 – Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp (4 km | 3 hours | Altitude 11,250 feet)
Day 4 – Kedarkantha Base Camp to the Kedarkantha Peak and then back to Juda ka Talab (5 km | 6 hours | 12,500 feet)
Day 5 – Juda ka Talaab to Sankri
Day 6 – Sankri to Dehradun
