Kedarkantha is a peak in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, at an elevation of 12,500 feet in Tons river valley. It is located within Govind Wildlife sanctuary. Kedarkantha summit offers a 360° view of 13 great Himalayan peaks some of them are Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag, Rangala and many others. Kedarkantha Trek distance is about 24 km and is one of the best winter trek you can do this winter with your family or friends.
Uttarakhand is a land of God's so every place has its own mythological story Kedarkantha is also one of them. It is also known by the name of Bal Kedar, according to a local legend Lord Shiva used to meditate at this place but inhabitants disturbed his peace so he went to the present Kedarnath site. It is also believed that the droplets that fell from Lord Shiva's hairs is the origin of Juda Ka Talab (Juda means Hair bun).
The best time to visit Kedarkantha is from December to April as the meadows wears a thick white blanket of snow. One can enjoy the snow slides that can be done in some specific slopes under the guidance of trek leader. Kedarkantha temperature in winters may vary from (-5°to10°C).
Day 00: Depart From Delhi. Pickup point - Majnu Ka Tila at 10:00 pm.
Day 01: Reach Sankri it takes about 7-8 hours from Dehradun. The drive is beautiful.
Day 02: The trek starts from Sankri you will be trekking to Juda Ka Talab campsite from Sankri.
Day 03: You will be reaching Kedarkantha base camp today from Juda ka Talab campsite.
Day 04: Finally the summit day comes! You will leave early from Kedarkantha base camp to summit then back to Juda ka Talab.
Day 05: Reach Sankri from Juda ka Talab.
Day 06: Drive back to Dehradun 8-9 hours.
Day 07: Reach Delhi early morning.
Day 00 - Delhi To Dehradun ( 254 km l 6 hours l Dehradun 1,466 feet)
Day 1 – Dehradun – Sankri (187 km | 7-8 hours | Altitude 6,455 feet)
Day 2 – Sankri - Juda ka Talab (4 km | 4-5 hours | Altitude 9100 feet)
Day 3 – Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp (4 km | 3 hours | Altitude 11,250 feet)
Day 4 – Kedarkantha Base Camp to the Kedarkantha Peak and then back to Juda ka Talab (9 km | 6 hours | 12,500 feet)
Day 5 – Juda ka Talab to Sankri
Day 6 – Sankri to Dehradun
Day 7 - Dehradun to Delhi
By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Sankri which is about 212 km away. From Airport you can book a cab for Sankri.
By Rail: The Dehradun railway station is the nearest railway station to Sankri which is 194 km away and is well connected with Delhi, there are plenty of options to pick your train. You can book a taxi from Dehradun Railway station to Sankri.
Note- Book your ticket till Haridwar railway station because Dehradun railway station will be closed till Feb 2020.
By Road: Dehradun is well connected to all major cities. Sankri which is about 187 km away from Dehradun will take around 7-8 hours. You can book a cab or take public transport to reach Sankri, it is well connected with Dehradun.
