The Beas kund trek also known as Vyasa kund and is surrounded by coniferous forests and alpine meadows. The Beas river has its origins nearby mountains and trickles down as streams flowing through this region. Solang valley is the base point of the Beas Kund trek which is around 15 kilometers away from Manali.
It is known for being one of the best camping places in India as well as there are grasslands where camps can be set. Small rivulets flow by the side of these grasslands and the snow capped Himalayan mountains can be seen in the backdrop. The Beas kund trek is the short distance and easy trek that can done by anyone. It can act as an ideal weekend trip in the form of a trekking expedition and has a maximum elevation of 14000 ft. The Beas Kund trek does not have any major challenges but there are a few tricky portions which need to be crossed with caution.Though this trek can be done by the beginners, it is always recommended that a physically fit person should go ahead over here.
The Beas kund trail starts from Solang valley which is around 15 kilometres away from Manali which is a major tourist destination. The trail starts from here and is surrounded by forests of pine, spruce and deodar.There are rivulets, water streams, alpine meadows and grasslands that you will come across while on a trek here.
The Beas Kund Trek is essentially a four day trek and requires you to stay in camps. In fact camping here on the lush green grasslands here is one of the most cherish able experiences. The Beas Kund lake is nestled in the mountains at the summit and is the main attraction on this trail.

Location and how to reach
The Beas Kund trek starts from Solang which is around 15 kilometres away from Manali. Once can reach Manali by a number of ways
By Air: The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar. It is located at a distance of 57 km from Manali. However, due to the bad weather conditions flight is not the reliable mode of transport.
By Road: Manali is very well connected by road with different cities. Manali distance from Delhi is around 570 kilometers and there are regular buses plying between these cities.
Cars or taxis can be hired to reach Solang and from here the Beas kund trek starts.
Beas kund trek best time is from mid of June to mid of September. The weather remains conducive during these times for a memorable trekking experience. Post October the region gets covered by snow and trekking actually becomes difficult. The mornings and afternoons have pleasant temperatures but the temperatures drop to 3 to 4 degrees Celsius during the night.
Day 01: Reporting to Manali. (1800m)
We arrive at Manali by Volvo Bus in the morning. There are a number of buses that play between Delhi and Manali everyday.Pick up shall be arranged from the Volvo bus stand from where we will head over to our hotel Here you will be served with some welcome snacks.
There will not be much activity for today and will primarily act as a day dedicated for complete rest for the body to regain all the required energy for the Beas Kund trek that officially commences from the day after.You can either rest in your rooms or head over to do some sightseeing or shopping outside. The Mall road market at Manali is a must visit for shopping lovers.We will try wrapping up things early today, since we have lot of activities lined up for the next day.Fresh cooked hot meals will be served for dinner by 7pm. We will make way towards our beds by 8pm in the night thereafter for some quality sound sleep.
Day 02: Manali / Solang Valley / Bakar Thach(10700ft.) Via Taxi.(/ 8 hrs) (approx. 13-14 km.)
We will start our day early with some breakfast and head over to Solang Valley. The distance between Solang Valley and Manali is around 15 kilometres. We will cover this distance by a taxi. Solang Valley is a renowned picturesque spot for various sports like skiing, paragliding and many more. The Beas river flows through this region and is surrounded by coniferous forests. Solang valley is the base point for the Beas Kund trek.
The trail starts with rocky patch along streams that originate from the mountains nearby. Pine forests and deodar trees can be seen all along the way. We will eventually reach the Dhundi village which is the last village in the Solang Valley. A few wooden bridges over rivers and streams need to be crossed also along the way. We will be camping at Bakar Thach which is a grassland surrounded by mountains and forests for tonight. The distance between Solang valley and Bakar is around 8 kilometres on trek.
Camping here is a memorable experience and there are rivulets flowing through the grasslands here. Bakar Thach is surrounded by snow capped mountains.After 1.5 hrs of the trek on pastures and meadows, we will reach a campsite from where you can catch stunning views of Pir Panjal Range and Dhauladhar Range. Also major peaks like Hanuman Tibba, Ladakhi and Friendship Peak stand majestically before you. We will stay in tents here that will be pitched here for our the overnight stay.
Day 03: Bakar thach – Beas Kund (12800ft.) – Bakar Thach (10700 ft; 6 to 7 hrs) Approx 10-11 km.
We will wake up early and start our day with some breakfast. Today we would be trekking to our prime attraction on this trek which is the Beas Kund lake. The distance from Bakar Thach to Beas Kund is around 6 kilometers. The stretch here is a bit steep and therefore has some tricky portions.
The Beas Kund lake is nestled amidst mountains and is formed from the waters of the glaciers that flow down from above the mountains. There are small water channels and streams that originate from this lake as well.The colorful view of green pastures, white snow-capped peaks and blue crystal clear water of Beas kund Lake will mesmerize you.
Make sure you click as many pictures are possible of these scenic landscapes. Post this we will head down again to our campsite at Bakar Thach. In the evening we will spend our time sitting by the campfire, singing and having food together. An eventful day comes to an end here.
Day 04: Bakar Thach –Solang Valley- Manali. (1800m/6000ft; 5 – 6hrs) Approx 13 – 14 km.
Today we will descending from Bakar Thach to Solang Valley. The approximate distance that needs to be covered would be around 14 kilometers today. We will trek all the way to the Dhundi village.You can meet the local people here and get a sense of their simple lifestyle as well. From Dhundi we will be proceeding toward the Solang Valley on foot and a car would be there to drop us back to Manali.
An adventurous weekend trip ends here. The experiences and scenic views you will witness on the way to the Beas Kund trek will stay with you for a while surely. From Manali you will be heading back to your respective hometowns.
The Beas Kund trek is an easy trek which families and beginners can easily do. The level of difficulty is easy to medium but is surely endurance testing. People who love adventure and are up for new thrills and challenges will surely love this experience. Sights on the trek are absolutely stunning.
It has a well defined and wide walking trail and is not a risky one. However it does test your endurance and patience at times but at same time fills you up with adrenaline rush and vigour . Most of the portions have a gradual ascent.
If you are leading a rather sedentary life, then make sure you workout or make yourself physically fit a month prior to this in order to do this trek. Making yourself mentally prepared for this will also help. You can use a walking stick during the trek.The trek passes through some high altitudes and there might be low levels of oxygen.
Some people might experience difficulties with that, so they should come prepared. Also the temperatures high up there might be very low, proper woollen clothes and gear should be carried.
Beas kund trek temperatures remain pleasant during mornings in summers but the temperatures drop during the night. The temperature can dip to something as low as – 7°C at night. The area is covered with snow during the months post October and temperatures drop further.
There will be guest rooms booked for the first day of the trek and post that we will staying in tents or trekker hunts.
Beas kund trek cost includes the meals also. Fresh and tasty food will be served during the four days of the trek. During trekking packed food will be provided.Our cooks will be there to serve you delicious and healthy meals up there in the hills.

There are no ATMs nearby and also on the trekking route. The nearest ATM is at Manali which is located some 15 kilometres away. It is advisable to withdraw money from here before you start you trek.
Make sure you withdraw sufficient amount of cash for the entire journey and carry it with you.None of the cell phone networks also work up there properly, however, you might get limited network at times. Major networks work properly till Manali only.
Make sure you complete all your important calls and let your family members know about this connectivity issue before you start trek.
Permissions/Passes and Permit
People doing the Beas Kund trek need to have a permission from the forest check post. This is easily available and the original and xeroxed copies of identification cards are required.
Identification cards such as driving license or voter ID along with a passport size photo are compulsory and would be required while obtaining the permit for the trek.There are no other permissions or permits required.
